Winfried Bullinger was born in Munich, Germany in 1965.

 

He studied fine art, painting, at Berlin University of the Arts (UDK) from 1988 to 1993 in the class of Prof. Wolfgang Petrick. He was appointed Master Student at the UDK in 1993.

 

In 1987 he spent one year in South Africa. He studied fine art, painting at Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town.

 

Winfried Bullinger also studied law at Free University of Berlin from 1985 to 1991 with a focus on copyright law. In 1996 he received his doctorate from the Humboldt University in Berlin for his dissertation on the forgery of works of art and moral rights. He practices as a copyright lawyer in Berlin and teaches as an Professor at Brandenburg Technical University.

 

In his photographic work Winfried Bullinger focuses on the human condition. He has been traveling to different parts of Africa for his longterm projects since the 1980’s. The images presented on this website are from the countries of Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Chad, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ruanda, Cameroon, Libya and the Central African Republic. Winfried Bullinger took the photographs in the series with a large format analog camera on black and white film.

 

In 2017, Winfried Bullinger published his book "At the Edges of Power," which shows portraits and contains an essay by Hubertus von Amelunxen at Hatje Cantz Verlag, Berlin.

 

Winfried Bullinger lives and works in Berlin and Potsdam, Germany.
